Road Scholar 11/5/2017, 6120

Spend your days hiking and exploring the unique landscape and incredible geology of Death Valley National Park, and your nights gazing into an incredible night sky. The park encompasses over 3.3 million acres in southeastern California. It is rich in human history and its geological phenomena show a land created by immense forces.

For the 2017-18 season, two levels of hiking experience will be provided:

The Outdoor: Spirited level program includes 1 to 2 hikes per day. The hikes last from 1 to 3 hours, going cross-country, through washes, up canyons, and over sand dunes. This program is designed to accommodate a variety of hiking speeds and you can choose how far you go on each hike.

The Outdoor: Challenging level program is designed for the serious hiker who wants to do longer, faster-paced, more challenging hikes. There is 1 hike per day; hikes vary from 6 to 10 miles in length. All have uneven footing; some are at elevations over 5,000 feet.

These programs are provided through Road Scholar (formerly Elderhostel). To learn more, or to register for a program, go to the Road Scholar: Hiking Death Valley National Park page or go to their home page,, and search for program #6120.
